Xia Qiang

He currently serves as the President and Deputy Party Secretary of Renji Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; Director of the Shanghai Engineering Research Center for Organ Transplantation and Immunology; Director of the Shanghai Institute of Organ Transplantation; Director of the China–Southeast Asia Pediatric End-Stage Liver Disease Translation Research Center; Director of the Shanghai Liver Transplantation Quality Control Center; and leading expert in liver surgery. He holds the titles of Chief Physician, Professor, and Doctoral Supervisor. In November 2023, he was elected as an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Specializes in the surgical management of pediatric end-stage liver disease as well as benign and malignant liver tumors. Has made outstanding contributions to the field of liver transplantation in both adults and children; has led his team in performing over 7,000 liver transplantations to date, with the annual volume at this single center ranking first nationwide for twelve consecutive years. In 2006, initiated a systematic domestic research initiative and scientific breakthrough program focused on pediatric liver transplantation technologies. By the end of 2022, had completed more than 3,000 pediatric liver transplantations; the annual volume at this single center has ranked first globally for ten consecutive years; the postoperative 1-year and 5-year survival rates stand at 95.5% and 94%, respectively, placing it among the world's leading institutions. Dedicated to the widespread adoption and application of pediatric liver transplantation techniques, actively conducts multicenter clinical studies, and published China's first "Clinical Guidelines for Pediatric Liver Transplantation," advancing China's pediatric liver transplantation practice to the forefront of global standards.
