Li Xinxiang

Specializes in comprehensive, precision-based surgical treatment for colorectal malignancies, including colon cancer and rectal cancer. During his tenure at the Cancer Hospital, he pioneered various laparoscopic colorectal surgical procedures, establishing himself as a trailblazer and academic leader in this field at our institution, having performed over 10,000 colorectal surgeries in total. He possesses profound expertise particularly in functional sphincter preservation for ultra-low rectal cancer. He spearheaded the establishment of China's first Expert Committee on the Prevention and Treatment of Rectal Cancer and served as its inaugural chairman. He performed the world's first laparoscopic transanal extrusion technique with non-angled double anastomosis, as well as Asia's first nickel-titanium alloy pressure anastomosis technique. He also introduced the innovative concept and technique known as "Laparoscopic Radical Resection of Rectal Cancer Using a Vascular-Centered Approach."

Chairperson of the Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Oncology Committee, Shanghai Anti-Cancer Association; Vice Chairperson of the Minimally Invasive Oncological Surgery Expert Committee, Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO); Vice Chairperson of the Colorectal Oncology Integrated Rehabilitation Committee, Chinese Anti-Cancer Association; Standing Committee Member of the Proctology Branch, Chinese Medical Doctor Association; Standing Committee Member of the General Surgery Committee, Chinese Society of Integrative Medicine.

Has served as principal investigator for three General Research Projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and one Key Project supported by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission; since 2018, has published 49 research papers as corresponding author; has edited or translated six monographs; holds two invention patents and two utility model patents. Led the drafting of the "Chinese Expert Consensus on Radical Resection of Rectal Cancer with Preserved Left Colic Artery" and participated in the compilation of more than ten authoritative clinical guidelines and consensus documents, including the "CSCO Guidelines for the Diagnosis and Treatment of Colorectal Cancer."

The 6th "National Distinguished Physicians – Exemplary Practices" award; as the primary contributor, the research achievement titled "Optimization and Promotion of a Comprehensive Surgical Treatment Management Model for Rectal Cancer" was awarded the Second Prize in the 2022 China Anti-Cancer Association Science and Technology Award, the Third Prize in the Medical Science and Technology Category of the 2019 Chinese Medical Science and Technology Award, and the Second Prize in the 2018 Shanghai Medical Science and Technology Award.
